Important Russia and Ukraine updates

At Cigna, we are closely monitoring developments in Russia and Ukraine and would like to reassure you that our continued priority is to protect the Whole Health of our customers.

We understand that the situation is regularly changing so we recommend that you bookmark this page and check back regularly for updates on changes that might impact either the cover we can provide or your claims payments.

If you currently use one of these banks for claims payments, you must provide us with alternative bank details from a bank that has not been sanctioned or we will be unable to pay your claims. You can do this via your online customer area or when submitting a claim.

During the period the sanctions apply we are unable to make payments into the following Russian or Belarusian bank accounts:

Locations where we cannot currently provide cover:

For customers living in the so called Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) or Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR) regions of Ukraine, we can no longer provide coverage after February 21, 2022.  If you have moved to a different location, please contact us via your dedicated customer service team with the details of your new address.

Russian Issued Credit Cards 

Visa, MasterCard and American Express have announced that they are suspending operations in Russia. Please find below further information regarding each credit card type.

  • MasterCard

    Cards issued by Russian banks will no longer be supported by the MasterCard network regardless of where they’re used - inside or outside of Russia. And, any MasterCard issued outside of the country will not work at Russian merchants or ATMs.

  • American Express

    Globally issued American Express cards will no longer work at merchants or ATMs in Russia. Additionally, cards issued locally in Russia by Russian banks will no longer work outside of the country on the American Express global network. American Express are also suspending all business operations in Belarus.

  • Visa

    All transactions initiated with Visa cards issued in Russia will no longer work outside the country and any Visa cards issued by financial institutions outside of Russia will no longer work within the Russian Federation.
