  • Almost nine out of ten young adults in the UK want the vaccine when it’s their turn (v 6 out of 10 globally)
  • New global research also reveals Brits are more anxious about spreading COVID-19 than contracting it

LONDON – May 26, 2021: Adults under 25 in the UK are increasingly keen to receive the vaccine and more enthusiastic than older 20 and 30-something millennials, with around nine out of ten (88%) saying they will definitely get the jab when it becomes their turn (v 61% globally).

New research from global health service company Cigna Europe reveals that Generation Z - adults under 25 - are keener than any other age group under 55 to get vaccinated, versus 80% of millennials, the group most concerned about the potential side effects.

Meanwhile Brits across all age groups are now more worried about transmitting COVID-19 than catching it, according to the Cigna Global Vaccine Perception Study - with two-thirds (65%) concerned about transmitting the virus compared to two in five (41%) concerned with catching.

Although overall, three quarters (75%) of Brits are confident vaccines will protect them from COVID-19 (v 61% of global participants), almost a fifth (19%) feel they don’t know enough about COVID-19 vaccines (v 42% globally), including 26% of millennials and 22% of Generation X.

Arjan Toor, CEO, Cigna Europe, said: “It’s extremely positive to see that under 25s are so on-board with the vaccination programme following so much press in recent months around vaccine hesitancy amongst this group. It is normal human instinct to question the new, yet this research shows encouraging uptake across all groups which is very welcome with concerns of the new Indian variant in pockets of the UK.

“The progress we are seeing is a result of the hard work and dedication of healthcare professionals, and it is this which is having a real and positive impact on the fight around the perception of the COVID-19 vaccine. Going forward, this research will help us understand more about how people feel about vaccines to enable us to better meet their needs and to provide the right support to improve their health, well-being and peace of mind in these unprecedented times.”
