    Key findings

People want to take a more active role in their health, but gaps in confidence, access to care, and trust in technology can make it harder to turn intention into action.

    Health confidence

38% feel confident about what their health plan does and does not cover.

    Access to care

24% have delayed or avoided care because of waiting-time concerns.

    Trust in technology

48% expect AI to have a positive effect on their personal health care experience.

    About the study

People want to take an active role in their health. But wanting to act and being able to act are not always the same thing.

Drawing on responses from 12,000 adults across the world, our 2026 study explores what helps turn motivation into informed action, and where employers can make health support easier to understand, access, and use.

    Inside the report:

    • Health is personal: why motivation is high, and why support needs to be personal.
    • Confidence makes the difference: what helps people understand and use their health insurance
    • Care cannot wait: how delays and cost can affect health and working life
    • Technology needs a human touch: where people see AI's potential, and what holds back trust
    • Control is not equally shared: why health-tracking tools may be working best for people who already feel confident managing their health

    Confidence in understanding health insurance

At its core, the challenge is one of health confidence, and it is not equally shared. The study groups respondents by vitality, which is a measure of overall health and well-being. On key health insurance measures, around 7 in 10 high-vitality respondents feel confident, compared with about 1 in 8 low-vitality respondents.
