World Health: World Blood Donor Day

June 14th 2016 recognized World Blood Donor Day as an international day to raise public awareness of the need for regular blood donation, inspire individuals to donate, and to encourage everyone around the world to show appreciation towards donors for their life-saving gift of blood.

The World Health Organization encourages all countries to establish blood services based on full voluntary non-remunerated blood donations. WHO has stated this year that “voluntary, unpaid blood donation is the act of giving life – the greatest gift any person can give or receive.”
